Seeking to foster a truly inclusive and dynamic urban environment, the City of Bruges launched the Queer City Makers Participation Moment.
This initiative serves as a crucial good practice in community engagement, specifically targeting local LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies. The goal is to move beyond traditional consultations and actively invite community members to become co-creators of the city’s future.
We asked residents to share their vision, ideas, and experiences to help develop new, tangible projects, including:
- Establishing safe and visible meeting places.
- Creating impactful cultural events and initiatives.
- Identifying and addressing current gaps in inclusion and support.
By directly asking the community to become “City Makers,” Bruges demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that its growth and policy-making are genuinely informed by, and representative of, its diverse LGBTQIA+ population. This approach ensures that inclusivity is built from the ground up, resulting in more relevant and impactful outcomes.
