The new Equality and Non-discrimination Advisory Board of Helsinki began its work in September 2025, replacing the previous Equality and Non-Discrimination Commission. The purpose of the new Advisory Board is to act as a forum for cooperation and dialogue, promoting the realisation of equality and non-discrimination in the City’s operations and enabling organisations to actively participate and exert influence. In addition to political elected officials, the new Advisory Board comprises representatives from various NGOs specialized in different minority groups and the promotion of non-discrimination. The representative of the LGBTIQ NGO Rainbow Families Finland was elected as the first vice-chair of the Advisory Board. Specialists from the City’s different divisions will also be involved in the work of the Advisory Board.
