Since Taiwan’s legalization of same-sex marriage on May 24, 2019, significant progress has been made in marriage and family rights for LGBTQ+ individuals. However, the needs and experiences of older LGBTQ+ people remain underrepresented. Facing challenges such as invisibility, lack of support, and unfriendly services, they require more inclusive aging and care policies. In 2025, Taipei City Government launches the campaign “Making Elder LGBTQ+ Lives Visible”, including an online exhibition (to be launched in late September) featuring life stories, global care models, domestic resources, and films/books. A public forum “When We Grow Old Together” will be held on November 8 with three panel sessions addressing life course, medical discrimination, and legal rights.
