Since 2022, the City of Cologne has been supporting projects to prevent violence and reduce discrimination against LGBTI people with its own funding programme.
New in 2025: Focus to reduce homo- und transphobic violence and discrimination at schools.
Generally, associations, groups, organisations and individuals from Cologne’s LGBTI communities as well as those that are not part of the LGBTI communities can submit applications for a project, that is running for up to 12 months.
In 2025 the majority of the 20 projects funded are targeting schools, addressing students, teachers, social workes and/or parents. The total budget of the funding programme was 100.000 Euros, and the maximum amount per project was 10.000 Euros. The projects include workshops, project days, trainings, events such as readings or film screenings or establishing safer spaces for queer students. All of them are aiming to prevent violence, to reduce prejudice and discrimination, or to offer empowerment for queer students and staff.
