On May 17, 2025, a memorial created by artist Jean-Luc Verna was inaugurated in Paris.
The project was led by the organization “Les Oublié·e·s de la Mémoire”, which has worked to raise awareness and ensure recognition of deportation based on homosexuality in France and beyond since 2003. For this memorial, the organization collaborated with an inter-association LGBTQIA+ working group.
The monument, designed by Jean-Luc Verna—a multidisciplinary artist, designer, dancer, and singer—draws on mythological, cinematic, and musical references, all expressed with his distinctive humor and benevolent ambiguity. The monumental piece, a giant magic wand measuring 5 by 7 meters, was installed in the Port de l’Arsenal garden (12th arrondissement), in the heart of Paris.
Inscribed with the words “To the forgotten!”, this magic wand now stands as a memorial and a page of shared history.
