Housing precarity and homelessness are growing social problems that affect more and more people. For marginalised groups, such as LGBTIQ+ individuals, the situation is further exacerbated when the various intersections are taken into account. Negative, life-changing events, such as discrimination in the housing and labour markets and experiences of exclusion due to queerphobia, can lead to further hurdles and disruptions. To date, there is little scientific evidence on housing and homelessness among LGBTIQ+ people. For this reason, the Senate Department for Diversity and Anti-Discrimination has commissioned a study on housing and homelessness among LGBTIQ+ people in Berlin. The main goal of the basic study is to fill in the gaps in our knowledge, highlight key challenges, and use this to come up with recommendations for action to help develop effective plans for Berlin. The study was carried out as part of “Berlin’s LGBTIQ+ Action Plan 2023”. A summary of the study is now available in English.
