In Berlin´s government policy guidelines the Senate of Berlin has undertaken to ‘develop a “state strategy for queer safety and against queerphobia” and to establish a Round Table on ‘Protection against queer-hostile hate crime’. The Berlin state strategy was developed under the leadership of the „State Office for Equal Treatment – Against Discrimination“ (LADS) as part of a grant-funded project run by Camino gGmbH. The broad-based participation process involving civil society, public administration and the Berlin districts began in March 2024 with the subsequent first meeting of the Round Table chaired by the Queer Commissioner of the Berlin State Government as the steering committee for the development of the strategy.
The participation process ended with the last round table meeting on 8th of August 2025, at which civil society’s recommendations for a state strategy were handed over to the responsible Senate Department for further consideration.
