The City of Montréal is introducing universal change rooms and washrooms across its facilities to promote safe, respectful, and inclusive access for all — including families, groups, trans and non-binary individuals, people with disabilities, and their accompanying persons. Too often, trans and non-binary individuals experience anxiety, discrimination, harassment, or denial of entry in gendered changing spaces . Universal facilities provide a neutral and affirming environment that respects diverse gender identities. The Rosemont Aquatic Complex, in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough, integrated a universal changing room during its latest renovations. Looking ahead, the City has committed to adding 23 universal change rooms to its infrastructure by 2030.
