January 27, 2025, marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. In Germany, this day has been commemorated since 1996 in memory of the victims of National Socialism.

Mayor Haase took part in a memorial service at the LSBTIQ stele on Ernst-Ludwig-Platz. He reminded those present that a democratic and mindful society cannot be taken for granted, but is an ongoing task that everyone must actively and wholeheartedly embrace. He emphasized that the memorial stele on Ernst-Ludwig-Platz provides a central, dignified, and appropriate place for persecuted people with an LGBTIQ background in the city’s culture of remembrance.
