For the first time, Cork City Council has set up an internal LGBTI+ staff group, an initiative designed to foster greater inclusion, visibility and for LGBTI+ staff. The network provides a safe and welcoming space where colleagues can connect, share experiences, and contribute to building a workplace culture rooted in equality and respect. It has also served as a platform for staff to inform and shape policies, ensuring that the Council continues to uphold best practice in diversity and inclusion. Importantly, the network is open to all employees, whether LGBTI+ themselves or allies, reflecting the belief that inclusion is everyone’s responsibility. Participation offers an opportunity to gain experience, support colleagues, and champion values of dignity and respect at work. The establishment of the LGBTI+ Staff Network marks another positive step forward in making Cork City Council not only a service provider for the community but also a workplace where every individual can feel safe, valued, and proud of who they are.
